DIY hairstyles from the red carpet

Love the styles seen on the red carpet at the 69th Golden Globe Awards, which aired Sunday, January 15th, 2012? Want to recreate some of the hottest looks of the Golden Globes from stars like Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron? Follow these step-by-step instructions from the author and Kidman’s own stylist David Babaii.

Celebrity hairstylist David Babaii began the 2012 award season by focusing on pre-red carpet preparation of the hair prior to styling. According to David, "First, we created a change in Nicole's hair color opting for a lighter strawberry blonde. To achieve true tonal color while improving the condition of the hair use IT&LY HAIRFASHION's Colorly 20/20 Professional Hair Color."

As David reveals, "The style inspiration for Nicole's look was my take on a modern day Veronica Lake". To style Nicole's hair, David began with Pure Shampoo and Conditioner by IT&LY HAIRFASHION to maintain her hair color balance while hydrating with pure botanicals. Next, he applied a small amount of the silicone free Miracle Oil Hair Elixir by David Babaii to add additional shine and protect the hair from thermal damage. To dry, he used a small round brush to create an ultra smooth finish while bumping the ends under. To complete this "Veronica Lake" look, David used a large barrel curling iron, wrapping only the bottom portion of the section around the barrel to create soft natural waves. To finish, he created a side part and lifted the root area with IT&LY HAIRFASHION's Pure Volumizing Eco Hair Spray, lightly spritzing the ends for a long lasting hold.

According to President and CEO of IT&LY HAIRFASHION, N.A., Richard Zucckero, "I am proud to have David Babaii and his hairstyling talents be a part of the IT&LY HAIRFASHION, N.A. family".[i]

To recreate Charlize’s award winning hairstyle from this year's Golden Globe Awards, blow dry the hair according to David’s instructions above. Instead of only curling the bottom portion of the hair, wrap the entire shaft around the large barreled iron. To create “finger waves” around the bang area, mold the hair between two fingers by the temple and secure with a long clip, then repeat underneath near the cheekbone and set with hairspray. Keep the clips in the hair while the back bun is secured with hairpins keeping it low, loose and off center. To fashiob the bun, make four sections after all the hair has been curled, twist one section at a time and secure with hairpins until all have been looped together. Remove the clips and finish the look with hair spray and a glitter headband.
