These wreaths are interesting, easy to do, and make great gifts.
Supplies:
- an old book, preferably with yellowing edges- keep in mind the size of the finished wreath when choosing a book
- hot glue gun
- glue sticks
- cardboard
- scissors and/or exacto knife
- ribbon
- pen
- clear latex spray paint
Instructions:
Using the cardboard, draw a circle approximately 12 inches in diameter. In the center of that circle, draw another circle approximately 4 inches in diameter. Cut the circles out. A variation would be to cut the cardboard in the shape of a square. This will be used as the base to build the wreath. Take the book and tear out a page. Roll the page on a diagonal, and secure it from unrolling by hot gluing the edge. Repeat this until you have enough to cover the cardboard. There is room for creativity by keeping the rolls uniform in shape or vary the size for more interest. Glue the rolls of paper on the cardboard. Next you will want to begin filling in the spaces of the wreath. You may choose to continue to roll paper to fill in the bare spaces which will 'build' on top of the base. You could also cut the rolls into different lengths for added interest. Fan folding the paper or making flowers with the pages is another alternative. Keep adding pages until you are happy with the look of the wreath. Glue a loop of ribbon to the back of your wreath for hanging purposes. Spray the wreath to seal the paper. This will need to be done in light coats with drying time in between. Another variation would be to use colored paint or glitter. This project takes about 2 hours, no including drying time.
