Every year, local Huntsville news source, The Valley Planet, does a "Best of the Valley" competition on the reader's choices for local businesses in a wide variety of categories.
One of the category titles, Best Local Sports team, has belonged to the Dixie Derby Girls for the past 4 years of the contest. The 2010 Dixie Derby Girls win saw a 25% vote over the Huntsville Stars baseball and Huntsville Havoc hockey professional teams.
