A Dixie Chick goes solo, reports The Inquisitr on March 16. Natalie Maines appeared on a SXSW 2013 stage, at ACL Live hall, without her Dixie Chicks band mates, Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson. Maines is embarking on a solo goal, and her appearance at the South By Southwest festival gives her some practice. She is set to release "Mother" on May 7. The 38-year-old is also rocking a new buzz cut hairdo.
Her solo effort was produced with the help of Ben Harper who appeared as a guest guitarist on stage with her at SXSW. The effort has more of a rock feel than a country feel, and as reported at Billboard, includes "originals and covers by Pink Floyd, Jeff Buckley and others." According to Harper and Maines, they've always wanted to collaborate on an album together.
The effort gives Maines an opportunity to get away from her controversial past which included death threats for statements about George Bush, patriotism and more. Back in 2003, Maines commented on one of the death threats. "It was definitely scary because it seemed so - it wasn’t just somebody wanting to write a hate letter. It was somebody who obviously thought they had a plan."
