Author and director Nora Ephron has said, “My theory is that marriages come and go, but divorces are forever.” Is this really what has become the thought of marriage in the United States? Every year there are an estimated one million divorces. By comparison, about two million marriages occur every year.
Divorce is also deterring people from getting married as well. A study conducted by Cornell University concluded that two out of three participants were scared of the social, legal, emotional, and economic consequence of divorce.
There is no doubt that divorce is scary and expensive. The estimated cost of divorce is $15,000 and an estimated 115,000 women lose health insurance every year due to divorce.
