The divorce rate in Milwaukee has been going down slowly over the last decade or two. The change in the rate varies depending on the age group involved. In fact, the divorce rate among those ages 25 to 29 dropped by about 30 percent from 19 percent in 1996 to 14 percent in 2009. However, this is the age group which is impacted the most by divorce.
According to a new study by Michigan State University, those who divorce at a younger age are more likely to experience health problems. During the course of the study, the primary researcher, Hui Liu, found that older couples seemed more able to cope with the stresses that often come with getting divorced. The younger couples, on the other hand, were often not mature enough to deal with stress, which can impact a person’s overall health.
Another factor in the way couples of different ages handle divorce is in the longevity. In many cases, older couples who were married for longer periods of time spent more time unhappy in their marriages. This means they officially checked out of their marriages much sooner than younger couples who divorced after fewer years of marriage. The older couples were able to come to terms with the divorce while still married.
Even though younger couples are more likely to divorce than older couples, it can also cause more problems with their health. Divorce comes with high amounts of stress. That stress can have a detrimental impact on a person’s health when he doesn’t know how to deal with it properly.
