Austin continues to reap the benefits of its central location in Texas, this time with a performance from the venerable but obscure Dallas death metal outfit Divine Eve. The group started strong with a 1993 EP release on Nuclear Blast, but as with many young bands, internal conflict led to a split by 1995.
In 2008, Divine Eve returned with a clear desire to get a better seat at the table. Their most recent release, Vengeful and Obstinate, has been warmly received, and since then they've toured Europe and made several appearances around Texas.
This will actually be the band's first time to play Austin, and it goes without saying that you won't want to miss one of the bricks in Texas' formidable metal wall. Death and doom await you, so if you somehow managed to miss the Triptykon show last year, this is a good opportunity to recapture that same brand of black energy.
Local cohorts Vex will be in direct support, along with Enormicon, Rise Thy Ruin, and newcomers Steel Bearing Hand (who so far have an early thumbs up from this reporter). If nothing else, this show is greatly improved by the move from The Dirty Dog to Headhunters. Yes, the latter has a smaller stage, but the Dirty Dog is just a clearinghouse for sports bar morons who don't like metal regardless. Small and intimate is the way of the underground, so why mess with the formula?
