On Saturday October 19, 2013 the Fremont Symphony will celebrate its 50th Anniversary with a multi-cultural concert called World Tour: Unity. The Fremont Symphony Orchestra will demonstrate the richness of our world through music with a musical journey spanning over 300 years and 12 countries, exploring the diversity and unity of the human spirit.
Asian Music and musicians will be prominently featured in the concert. Included in this world tour will be an unusual East-West collaboration featuring master kotoist and this year’s Bunka (Japanese Cultural Artist) Hall of Fame honoree Shirley Kazuyo Muramoto. Mrs. Muramoto will perform with her koto quartet a new composition, “Fireflies” written by Muramoto and her son, Brian Mitsuhiro Wong. Also appearing in the koto quartet are Isabella Lew and Perry Cheng.
The world premiere of "Fireflies" this year at the O1C concert with the Murasaki Ensemble met with great accolades from the audience and caught the attention of the Fremont Symphony who arranged for an orchestration to be written by Kim Scharnberg especially for this 50th year celebration concert.

Also notable in the program will be Yangtze Boatmen’s Chantey and other Chinese folksongs, including the hauntingly beautiful Prairie Song featuring the pipa with soloist Hecheng Liu.
Additional performers on the program will be Irish tenor Liam Tiernan, Gospel mezzo-soprano Erica Richardson, and the Reyes Brothers, Carlos and Julio, who will add a South American touch with an energetic romp featuring Paraguayan harp and acoustic guitar.
According to the official FSO press release:
"This celebration of 50 years of the Fremont Symphony Orchestra honors the wide variety of cultures in our community and the rich musical traditions of our orchestra, and celebrates our unity of spirit. There is nothing like music to show us that we are more alike than different."
