To meet your short term law school diversion needs, Google has developed a new tool that allows you to track Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz updates in real-time on specific topics.
Within the next few days, Google will be adding another feature to this tool that allows update searches within a date range, going all the way back to the first historic tweet on March 21, 2006.
What's the use? You may be surprised as to the scope of content that's that goes through Twitter. I ran an update search on "law hiring" and found some very interesting results.
Although the primary value for law students here may be purely diversional (<--I'm pretty sure that's a word), there may be some use for law school administrators who are interested in seeing how recently released news is fairing in the Twittersphere (<-- I'm pretty sure that is not a word) and law school faculty will have another stop, other than Googling themselves, to see how they're fairing on Twitter, Facebook and Google Buzz. It's a fast and dirty online search and you'll have take updates on Facebook and Twitter for what they're worth, but this seems to still be a good way to test the public opinion landscape and find an occasional nugget of value.
Incidentaly, I did a quick update search using the words "Loyola law," with which there have been about 10 updates in the last four days. Search using a term like "law school" and you'll get a list of updates that ticks away with a new update every few seconds. Right now, the buzz with that term, of course, is the recently leaked US News law school rankings.
