Divergent : Stars Maggie Q and Mekhi Phifer Talk About Their New Film ( VIDEO )

The eagerly anticipated film, "Divergent" opens in theaters nationwide today. "Divergent" is based on the first book in the popular young adult trilogy of novels written by Veronica Roth.

In the film, we encounter a post cataclysmic war Chicago set in the year 2164. The remaining citizens of this recovering city are divided into a caste system of sorts; groups that reflect their personalities upon reaching the age of 16. The groups, or factions as they are called, go by the following names: Abnegation, Candor, Amity, Erudite, and Dauntless.

The Abnegation group serves as social workers, priests, and pastors. Members of Candor serve as judges and lawyers. Amity members serve as farmers. Those in Erudite serve as teachers, scientists, doctors, businessmen, engineers, mathematicians, and bookmakers. Finally, the Dauntless faction serves as the miltary, law enforcements, and paramedics.

Former Abnegation member Beatrice "Tris" Prior ( Shailene Woodley ) discovers that she is Divergent, meaning she does not fit into any one faction; but rather she possesses strains of several personality traits from the other factions combined. Those labeled as Divergent are seen as a threat to the society status quo, especially by those in the Erudite faction. This leads to Tris finding herself in ultimate danger from those who see her special abilities as dangerous.

Recently, two of the stars of "Divergent"; Maggie Q ( formerly of TV's "Nikita" ) and Mekhi Phifer came to Boston to promote this exciting new film. Both actors play members of the rough and tumble Dauntless faction.

Reporter Tim Estiloz had a chance to chat with these two engaging and entertaining actors about "Divergent" and their role in the film trilogy to follow. See their interview in the video above.
