With fan excitement for the upcoming “Divergent” movie reaching a fever’s pitch this week, MTV News reported this Tuesday, Jan. 22, that in her most recent interview at the Sundance Film Festival, Shailene Woodley only got fans more fired up for the anticipated casting of the male lead Four in the big screen adaptation. The talented actress recently revealed that she has “two favorites in mind” for the role of Four already, and said that his character needs to be “a real man.”
Ever since Veronica Roth’s bestselling “Divergent” novel was confirmed to be made into a movie, readers and moviegoers alike quickly began speculating who would be cast for the top roles. While Shailene Woodley was confirmed fairly recently for the role of Tris, the part of Four in particular remains open. According to the latest reports, the male lead casting role is down to three actors that have auditioned with Woodley: Lucas Till, Alex Pettyfer, and Jeremy Irvine.
Although Shailene didn’t reveal in her recent interview with MTV News who in particular she wanted to see get the part of Four in the “Divergent” movie, she did open up on what type of actor needs to be cast in the key role, and that she does have her mind set on two potential stars already.
“We’ve been doing some auditions, and we’ll see what happens … As of right now, we’re scoping out the land. There are two particular guys I think are pretty great … The thing about Four is he has to be a man. No feminine actors, please. You cannot walk in that room with pretty little boots and pretend you are a man. You need to walk in there and you need to not have muscles that look good but don’t actually work. It’s just this character needs to be extremely masculine.”
Shailene Woodley didn’t stop there, going on to give her own realistic depiction of Four and how the actor must give the most chemistry and on-screen presence with her part of Tris in “Divergent” as well.
“It’s more just the chemistry between the two of us and seeing if we do have that chemistry. There’s a lot of standards that have to be met.”
No official date for production has been given yet, but the “Divergent” movie is set to begin filming sometime this April 2013 in Chicago, and with actors like Luke Kleintank confirming their casting auditions for such roles as Caleb, it likely won’t be long before Four is found! Fellow fans, who do you see as your Four among Alex Pettyfer, Jeremy Irvine, or Lucas Till?
