Fans of the upcoming “Divergent” movie now have an official release date they may want to set on their calendars. Latinos Post reported this Friday, Feb. 1, that a tentative theater release date for the hotly anticipated film was recently confirmed by Summit Entertainment: March 21, 2014. News regarding the potential casting roles of Kate Winslet were also discussed this week, as well as rising rumors over Alex Pettyfer in the part of Four.
Although only Shailene Woodley has been confirmed to play the female lead Tris in “Divergent” this year — filming is set to begin in Chicago this year sometime in April — casting speculation has run rampant, with several stars having auditioned for the roles.
“Variety” first hinted that Kate Winslet was negotiating a deal with Summit Entertainment to star in the “Divergent” film, though no roles have been revealed yet. The latest speculations note that Kate Winslet might be featured as Jeanine Matthews, leader of the Erudite faction, or Natalie Prior, Tris’ mother in the novel.
Alex Pettyfer has also been a key fan frontrunner for the part of Four, though Jeremy Irvine and Lucas Till are two other talented actors that have also auditioned for the casting role. Many fans seem content with one of these contenders, though “Variety” did note that Summit Entertainment may still consider older actors for Tobias as well.
“Divergent” is set to release in U.S. theaters on March 21, 2014, with production again beginning later this 2013. Final casting calls are likely not far off, so please stay tuned!
