'Divergent' movie news: Casting call made, looking for extras in Chicago

While “Divergent” movie fans continue to anticipate the hotly awaited news surrounding the film adaptation's casting, Red Eye Chicago reported this Monday, Feb. 4, that local fans of Veronica Roth’s hit novel have another reason to celebrate this week. According to reports, the movie team has begun its first casting calls for extras to be featured in the background before filming begins in Chicago this April.

Atmosphere Casting of Chicago has announced a press release asking for several hundreds of extras for “Divergent.” The casting call itself is set to take place this Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Film Studios, Cinespace Chicago. Although they are asking for a variety of people to appear as extras in the new local film, here are some of the particular background actors they need:

• People with a "country" farmhand look
• People familiar with the military, have weapons or martial arts training
• People with stunt/stage combat training
• People with a rather “hippie” look. Long hair preferred for both men and women.
• People with numerous, visible tattoos/piercings
• Age requirement: ages 16 and up, all backgrounds

To be eligible for the first “Divergent” movie casting call, fans must be Illinois residents and bring state ID to the audition screening, in addition to a candid photo fit 4” by 6”. All those interested must also be open to appearing for the film’s shooting from April through July this 2013.

Shailene Woodley has been confirmed to star as Tris Prior in “Divergent,” while casting for Four and the remaining cast remains unconfirmed. Alex Pettyfer, Lucas Till, and Jeremy Irvine have been hinted to possibly play Four, while Kate Winslet is in talks to also appear in “Divergent.” Stay tuned!
