'Divergent' movie cast: Jai Courtney is Eric, 'Game of Thrones' writer on script

Fans of the upcoming “Divergent” movie have quite a bit of exciting news to keep them occupied this week, as Hypable reported this Thursday, March 14, that Australian actor Jai Courtney has joined the cast of the film as Eric, a leader of Dauntless. The site also confirmed this week that a “Game of Thrones” TV writer, Vanessa Taylor, will help write the “Divergent” script as well.

Although the hotly anticipated role of Four remains uncast in the “Divergent” movie, Jai Courtney will be playing Eric, a definite antagonist of Tris in the novels and a Dauntless leader. Eric’s role in Veronica Roth’s YA novel is one of power; his belief in the sense of fear — and fearlessness — and plot progression make him a strong enemy of Tris (played by Shailene Woodley) in more ways than one.

In other “Divergent” news, a producer from the hit “Game of Thrones” TV series will be joining the film’s casting — as a co-writer for the script, that is. Vanessa Taylor is set to join to help adapt the novel to the big screen, and with two talented writers now at the helm, Tris’ story is certainly looking to be in good hands.
