The weekend just started, but “Divergent” is already well on its way to a big victory. On Saturday, March 22, Cinemablend reports that the young adult film adaptation has already banked close to $5 million. The source also compares “Divergent” to other YA franchise's. Entertainment Weekly reports $22.8 million for Friday.

“Divergent” opened on a limited release on Thursday, and from those night showings alone, the film has accumulated $4.9 million. According to the source, it is calculated that “Divergent” can earn a grand total of $50-$60 million by Monday.

As good as those numbers sound, “Twilight” collected $7 million from night showings, while “The Hunger Games” shoots both sums away with an impressive $19.7 million. The total weekend for “Twilight” was $69 million; “The Hunger Games” again wins with $152.5 million in a single weekend.

Entertainment Weekly updated fans this morning on “Divergent’s” winnings for Friday. According to the source, the film finished the day with an estimated $22.8 million. This is the largest sum in a single day since “The LEGO Movie.” This brings the total of “Divergent” to $27.7 million, from Thursday night and Friday. “Divergent” reportedly costs $85 million to make.

The “Divergent” sequel, “Insurgent,” is in the works and set for a 2015 release. Read more on that here.
