So, to add to the Halloween season, here is a little nugget game that most have yet to hear about. It's called Dread Halls and its out on the Oculus Rift.
Dread Halls is a scary, horror survival dungeon crawler on one of the most immersive system components to date. When the player puts on the rift headpiece, the character emerges into a dimly lit chamber ready to start the game. The objective is to escape the dungeon levels and get to safety without falling prey to the monsters that lurk in the dark. All the player gets is a micro-map that can dictate where they have been and where they may be going. It gives no other indication. Instead, the player must rely on sounds and atmosphere to determine if there's danger around the next corner.
The gamer's setting and jump scares are sometimes surreal, since the player feels surrounded by way of the Rift's headgear component. Sounds from the game can come from left or right, adding an essence of tension that wouldn't be there otherwise. For an interesting game this spooky season, give this little creepy number a try.
