Dive into delicious (Photos)

Happy Hours have always been a popular way to unwind after a busy day with friends and co-workers before heading home for dinner. However, they're not just for drinking and socializing anymore.

Many restaurants are experimenting with happy hour menus to showcase better food and cocktails at a happy hour price. A sampling of what the food at the restaurant is all about.

In the past you would typically find mediocre food at lower prices, but now you can find a number of restaurants serving up quality food at those same low prices. That's definitely the case at Pearl Dive Oyster Palace in DC.

Pearl Dive, the newest restaurant in Black Restaurant Group, is located right on 14th street in Logan Circle, and is known for their wide variety of oysters and dedication to serving DC the freshest seafood.

The restaurant, adorned in rustic decor, offers a handful of seafood entrees with an emphasis on Southern hospitality. You will be transported to the south with entrees like Crawfish Etouffee and Creole Gumbo, but they also offer a very simple yet mouthwatering happy hour menu from 4-7 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The menu has three food items and just a few drink specials. You will find two for one oysters, a Shrimp Po' Boy for $8, and one pound of Addie's mussels for $9. The shrimp Po' Boy is quite large and comes complete with house pickles, and a spicy cayenne aioli on ledenheimer bread with a side of fresh seasoned french fries. The large one pound portion of Addie's mussels are served in a flavorful and savory broth of garlic, shallot, fumet, and butter with a grilled baguette for dipping.

Like the food selections, the happy hour drink menu is small and straight to the point. You can choose from Sobieski Vodka martinis for $7, red, white, or sparkling wine by the glass for $5, and half price draft beers. If you feel the need to splurge, Pearl Dive has a tempting list of inspiring and inventive specialty cocktails for $12 each.

Although, what really sets this restaurant apart from all the others is the street-side bar that is open during the warmer months of the year. Enjoy all of these fantastic happy hour specials, or even just a fun Pearl Cup cocktail while standing at the outdoor bar taking in the sights of the city. Can't complain about that!
