DIVAS to storm the Cabaret Theatre at Mohegan Sun Alliance for Living Benefit

By Don Church and Tony Schillaci, Critics On The Aisle

There are fundraisers, and there are fundraisers.  The twenty-third celebration gala night on September 20 aims to raise awareness and money for Southeastern Connecticut’s AIDS organization, the Alliance for Living.

The event, “Celebration XXIII”, presented at the Mohegan Sun Cabaret Theatre, promises to be one helluva comedy-music-showbiz spectacular - a fun night benefit for a worthy cause.

The show - Divas In A Man's World - is a highly acclaimed professional troupe of celebrity and female impersonators, billed as "the world's best." Along with exciting dance routines and lavish costumes, the show features outstanding performances of uncannily accurate impressions of some of the world's most popular male and female performers - Cher, Bette Midler, Liza Minnelli, Prince and Joan Rivers.

Only a short week away, the single performance is on Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 at 8 p.m. Ticket sales are already brisk, but still can be ordered online at www.mohegansun.com or www.allianceforliving.org.  The advance tickets are $35, but those slow-pokes waiting for the night of the performance will be paying $50 at the door.   As the carnival barkers shout: “Hurry, hurry, folks.  Step right this way! Get your tickets now!”

For those who want to mix and mingle with the stars, a $75 ticket will buy preferred seating plus a 10 p.m. post-show reception and photo-op with the performers.  Scheduled to appear in impresario Stephen Andrade’s spectacular show are music and comedy icons Liza (Phil Craig), Prince (Frank Moore), Joan Rivers (Gary Dee), Bette (Jimmy Electric) and Stephen Andrade himself as the timeless Cher. -

With 350 seats, The Cabaret Theatre is the perfectly intimate and classy setting to showcase the talents of this unique troupe of savvy impressionists.  The room rivals any of the best small showrooms anywhere – yet it’s right in the heart of Southeastern Connecticut and easy to reach from Hartford, Fairfield, Rhode Island, and even NYC!

Recipient of the night’s profits, the Alliance for Living (AFL) is the only AIDS Service Organization (ASO) and resource center for people living with HIV/AIDS in southeastern Connecticut.  People come to AFL for medical case management, medication adherence, food, friends, holistic health and many other services.
