Dittmer leads in the Kansas City Amateur Championship after day two

The Kansas City Amateur Championship at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo. concluded day two of the competition on Saturday July 12. At the end of the second round, with 36 holes completed the field was cut for the final round. The Open Division was cut to the top 42 players and ties, the Players Division the top 7 players and ties, the Senior Division the top 11 players and ties, and the Legends Division top 8 players and ties. The cut was based on the numbers of players in each flight.

In the Open Division, defending champion Zac Dittmer shot a three under par 68 to end the second round and take a five-stroke lead into the clubhouse. Matt Barry finished the 36 holes at two under par for the tournament. Third place resulted in a three-way tie between Cameron Wiltse, Devin Montague, and Alex Higgs all at one under par.

Justin Howard began round two at four over par in the Players Division, and concluded play with two birdies and four bogeys to stand in first place at six over par. Patrick Hansen held second place overnight with a tournament total of 15 over par. At 18 over par, Curt Marchand took a third place finish to the clubhouse.

Steve Groom took a six shot lead to take a first place lead by six into the final round of the Seniors Division. Groom posted six birdies and three bogeys to shoot three under par for round two and seven under for the tournament. Andy Smith shot even par for round two to finish the 36-holes at one under par. Don Walsworth, John Samples, and Charlie Schorgl posted even par totals for a tie for third place.

At two over par for the tournament, Tom Bachelor was the overnight leader in the Legends Division. Ron Brewer finished the 36-holes at nine over par to stand in second place. A three-way tie resulted for third between Mitch Bowen, Wright Beck, and Jim Lodes all at 12 over par.

The final round begins at 9:05 a.m. on Sunday morning at Shoal Creek Golf Course.
