New reports are surfacing that around a dozen distressed fans in Australia have committed suicide over Michael Jackson's death last week.
More than a dozen devoted Michael Jackson fans in Australia have reportedly committed suicide following the King Of Pop’s sudden passing last Thursday.
The calls come as Jackson Family Friend, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, urged fans not to “self-destruct.”
“This is a time when hearts are heavy,” Jackson said. “There is great pain but great cause to celebrate Michael’s life. It made Michael happy saying ”We Are The World”. Don’t self destruct.”
According Sky News, Gary Taylor from London, who owns Michael’s online fan club, is aware of at least twelve suicides following the performer’s death.
“It is a serious situation that these people are going through but Michael Jackson would never want this,” News.com.au quoted Taylor as saying.
“He would want them to live.”
As many as fifty callers seeking help from suicide prevention hotline Lifeline Australia have told counselors that the singer’s death has left them deathly depressed.
“We have had some calls related to this,” said Lifeline CEO Dawn O’Neil. “In some cases, (a celebrity’s death) can be very distressing.”
It is only natural that fans be upset over this event, but suicide is NOT the answer.

Oh really, Kyle? i agree that suicide is not a decision but Mj MEANT for them so much.... even if he didn't want them to die....i can understand their pain... how desperate they were... i went throught this myself. i was killed by the news of his death.

A lot of online news sources are claiming that Wacko Jacko fans have killed themselves, but I have to see one report that has listed the fans' names. This seems to be no more than an urban legend.

I agree with Kyle also but it could have been said in a better way. Not in a cold heartless way. I understand that MJ was very important to many people all across the world. But at the same time, people die every day... DO YOU REALLY THINK MICHEAL WOULD KILL HIMSELF FOR THEM???? Its very sad and I know many looked up to him mainly because of what he sung about. Yes he have helped some out. But why kill yourself over someone thats stupid. God did not create man and woman to kill themselves when an Artist pass away. People all over the world are in bad situations, MJ did not bring them out of that. All he did was sing a song that related to most people situations. believe those people had underlining issues to begin with, and the death of MJ might have giving the excuse they needed to do this. Suicide is against GOD no matter what. I love MJ and I'm extremely heart broken over the lost, but my time to go is not here yet, and theirs much more work to do. We all have a purpose in life big or small. Turn on the music and cry your eyes out if you have to, but please don't kill yourself.

nikki99, you took the words right out of my mouth. Michael Jackson was more than just a singer to me and to a LOT of his fans, he was an idol and I loved him more than life itself. I always will. He was so caring and generous and his music and videos kept me strong when I was at my worst. He cared for his fans so much yet the world was so cruel to him and it makes me hate the media more and more each day. He is an absolute legend and knowing people feel the same way I do about him makes me smile. I know it sounds silly, but sometimes I feel safe knowing Michael Jackson is watching over his fans and keeping them safe like he always did. Heaven has definitely gained an Angel and I will always, always, always love him. Rest In Peace Michael, I miss you but I know we'll see you soon. :')
Michael Jackson is not a GOD. If people want to off themselves because of a mere human being who died and that they don't know and MJ didn't know them they didn't deserve life. The world is better off without them. When you think about it these people who killed themselves threw away all the time their parents gave them to raise them. Threw away any other friendship or relatioship they had going on at the time. My friend Rod Wanted to Kill himself after he heard the news of Michael Jackson. I'm glad I was there to talk him out of it.

Hello people,I read all your comments and recognized a whole lot of ignorance,let me just say... micheal jackson was thee greatest entertainer we will probably ever see but commiting suicide is a bit much. Although I also mourn the suicide victims I will say that the human race needs to become stronger. None of us will ever understand what those people went through mentally and I don't think its reasonable to say they didn't deserve life. Serial murderers and rapists don't deserve life,but believe you are no saint to talk down on the next person and many people may also say you guys don't deserve life. Its true MJ has been very influential on ppls lives, the way they dress, dance, sing etc. But i think ppl are getting really confused... They have loved the image of this man, his songs and his videos not the man himself because onone except his close friends really knew who mj was. So in all this comotion of suicide, depression and saddness, all we need to do is celebrate his life, his music and the impact he made on each on of us. Thank the higher beings for mj, for giving us the opportunity to have an influential human being brighten our days with his music. And although he is gone his music remains. Michael was a true King! But if anything Michael has tried to teach us that you should appreciate life, you should give, and love! He wanted us to know that "we are the world" and he gave so much! MJ was a wonderful person and my only regret is not being able to tell him I thought so. He needed to hear that more before he passed. But those of you that say he wouldn't want people do die are right. And those of you saying that the people killing themselves deserved what they got have issues of your own and you should probably go see a therapist. Hating other people and saying they should die is a sign that you hate yourself. If you don't want to read about people that loved Michael Jackson, click elsewhere but be classy about it and stop disrespecting people. It's very tacky.

I do think suicide is extreme. I feel that these people had a weak moral fabric to take their own lives. No question Michael is the best as his records prove but NO ONE should take their life. This is a time to grasp a sense of spirtuality. I think that is the only way people will be able to cope. The only way.
