Disneyland cancels Disney’s California Food & Wine Festival

On Nov. 3, Disney announced it will not host Disney’s California Food & Wine Festival at Disneyland Resort in 2011 and 2011, citing logistics and scheduling related to the ongoing construction at Disney California Adventure park.

Heather Hust Rivera, a Social Media Manager for Disneyland Resort, released the statement to the Disney Parks Blog, which in part stated:

While we are extremely excited with all of the progress to date, we have had to make some changes to accommodate our growth, and today we want to let you know we will not be hosting the 2011 and 2012 Disney’s California Food & Wine Festivals in Disney California Adventure park. This was not an easy decision, but expansion work over the next two years in some areas of the park present significant logistical challenges around scheduling the hundreds of festival offerings.

Disney’s California Food & Wine Festival is a popular Disney foodie event that emphasized the diversity of regional cuisines and drinks, showcasing international flavors and influences. The event has been a draw for celebrity chefs and Food Network personalities, such as Guy Fieri and Cat Cora. The 2011 Food & Wine Festival had already been announced for April 29 – June 12, nearly two weeks later than the 2010 event.

In making the announcement, Rivera focused on the long-term transformation onDisney California Adventure park due to its multi-year $1 billion expansion. She cited the “World of Color” nighttime spectacular, which opened in June, as a milestone moment.

Rivera also mentioned Cars Land, the 12-acred themed land scheduled to open in 2012, and the redesign of the theme park’s entry plaza, complete with Red Car Trolleys, to evoke 1920s Los Angeles. The entry plaza, which will also offer a building that evokes Cathay Circle Theatre, should open in 2011.

In addition to these developments, Disney California Adventure park’s expansion includes the already-open Toy Story Mania and Silly Symphony Swings. Ongoing work to Paradise Pier includes The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure dark ride and Goofy’s Sky School, both scheduled to debut in 2011.

  • i feel almost responsible, and this is a testament to the dangers of procrastination. i walked past the 2010 'fest on several occasions, contemplating buying a ticket, then talked myself out of it using the justification that i can come back next year...oops.

This is disappointing for all the folks looking forward to Disneyland's Food & Wine Festival, especially after reading your wonderful coverage of your Disney World Food & Wine Festival.

Note to self: Wait until 2013 to visit the California parks :)
