See also

Anyone who has recently been to the Walt Disney World Theme Parks has noticed the change in how guests using the FastPass system. This is because as of January 2014 Disney introduced FastPass+ to replace the old FASTPASS system that was originally introduced back in 1999. The new system is designed to help reduce wait times for attractions and make the system more efficient than it had been in the past.

Knowing how to properly use the new system can ultimately save you hours of waiting in line during our Disney World vacation. After several visits and trial and error, we have discovered some tips that will help you efficiently use the new system, This article will go over those different tips for using the latest FastPass+ system.

The new FastPass+ system works similar to making dinner reservations, but for rides and attractions at the Disney theme parks. It is now possible to select a specific time for you to enjoy your favorite rides and attractions. Or, if you prefer, you can let the system make ride times and suggestions for you.

Reservations last for one hour. For example, if you reservation is for 5 p.m., you will have until 6 p.m. to enter the attraction.

Guests traveling to Disney World can make their FastPass+ reservations up to 60 days prior to their check-in at a Disney World resort. Those not staying at a Disney resort can make their reservations up to 30 days in advance. Annual Passholders not staying at a Disney resort can hold up to seven days of FastPass+ reservations at a time.

To set your FastPass+ return times prior to your arrival, you will need to set up an account on the MyDisneyExperience website or download the app. This can only be done if you have already purchased your park tickets or have annual passes. Changes made through the MyDisneyExperience website or app can only be made later in the day if you have a MagicBand. Otherwise you will have to use one of the in-park terminals.

Remember, that you can only set times for one park each day. If you are planning on park hopping, you will have to choose which park you will set your times for.

It is possible to change your FastPass+ preferences after arriving at the theme parks. All you have to do is go to one of the in-park FastPass+ terminals to make your desired changes. It is best to do all of your changes at once to avoid having to get back in line at a terminal. FastPass+ terminals can be found at the following locations:

Magic Kingdom

  • Guest Relations - City Hall on Main Street U.S.A.
  • Town Square Theater - Main Street U.S.A.
  • Walkway between Adventureland and Liberty Square
  • Hall of Presidents - Liberty Square
  • Mickey’s Philharmagic - Fantasyland
  • Storybook Circus - Fantasyland
  • Splash Mountain - Frontierland

Epcot

  • Mission: SPACE
  • Soarin’
  • Guest Relations - Future World
  • Digital Tip Board - behind Spaceship Earth
  • International Gateway
  • Future World Walkway near The Land Pavilion

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • FastPass+ Service Center - to the left of the entrance
  • Wait Time Board - corner of Hollywood and Sunset boulevards
  • Voyage of the Little Mermaid
  • Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
  • Guest Relations - just outside of the park

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

  • Expedition Everest
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Primeval Whirl
  • Disney Outfitters - Discovery Island
  • FastPass+ Service Center - Creature Comforts on Discovery Island

If you plan to use the FastPass+ terminal shortly after the park opens, you can expect to wait 30 minutes or more. However, this is better than having to make your way back and forth across the park collecting the old paper passes. We suggest moving past the first few terminals near the main entrance and wait for a terminal further back in the park. This is because most guests will stop at the first terminal they see.

Hopefully the above information helps you get your FastPass+ reservations in time for your upcoming Disney World getaway. Check back for more information on how to use the system, best uses of passes, which attractions accept FastPass+ and more.

Happy vacationing!
