Guests riding three separate monorail trains were trapped for approximately two hours, according to Orlando's Wesh 2 News. The power failure began near 1 a.m., leading to a situation in which guests were trapped inside monorail trains without air conditioning or lights. Work crews helped guests exit the monorail trains about two hours later.
The monorail system has now resumed normal operations. Disney traced the cause of the power outage to a problem with the monorail system's computer harddrive.
Disney World public relations officials released a statement stressing that safety remains a top priority at the resort and indicating that Disney is working directly with the affected guests.
The incident is the latest in a series of transportation problems since July, when 21-year-old monorail pilot Austin Wuennenberg was killed in a fatal monorail collision.
