Disney World announces St. Patrick’s Day events at Raglan Road

On Feb. 15, Walt Disney World announced its schedule of special events for St. Patrick’s Day at Downtown Disney, giving guests almost a month to plan for the Irish food, dancing, music and fun that will make up the festivities. 

With March 17 falling on a weekend, Disney will throw an extended three-day St. Patrick’s Day celebration that will take place March 15-17 at and around Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant.

Raglan Road is an Irish pub with Dublin roots that offers entertainment, Guinness and assorted adult beverages, and an creative take on Irish fare. The venue is located in the Pleasure Island area of Downtown Disney.

For its St. Patrick’s Day weekend festivities, Raglan Road will raise its roof with live music. House band Creel performs on the main stage during the nights of March 15 and 16. Murphy’s Law and The Irish Rogues will perform on the Raglan Road patio.

Then on Saturday, the establishment's throws its official St. Patty’s Day party. Raglan Road will host a full day of continuous entertainment that begins at noon with Creel. The fun continues with the Raglan Road Dancers, outdoor entertainment and a special appearance by U2 tribute band Elevation.

But St. Patrick’s Day at Disney World isn’t confined to Raglan Road. It extends to the rest of Downtown Disney’s Pleasure Island, bringing the party to the streets. There will be performances by

  • The Wyndbreakers, billed as “neo-traditional, pub-rockin’, guitar pickin’ Celtic” musicians;
  • Celtic Wave, offering traditional Irish music; and
  • Celtic Nova, offering a twist on popular lrish tunes.

There’s also plenty of family-friendly fun to be found, including face painting and stilt walkers. Plus, St. Patrick’s Day souvenirs will be available.

2012 St. Patrick’s Day weekend schedule at Raglan Road

Guests wanting to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Raglan Road should make plans to attend one or more of the following events.

Raglan Road St. Patrick’s Day kickoff luncheon, March 15: Raglan Road offers a special lunch with Irish chef Kevin Dundon on March 15 at 1 p.m. The weekend of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations begin with a four-course lunch and culinary demonstration, complete with wine pairings, in the restaurant’s Grand Dining Room.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, this year’s menu includes hickory-smoked Irish salmon with leeks and a mead cream reduction; roasted tomato and gin soup; loin of traditional Irish bacon with Irish Mist glaze; and a jelly panna cotta. Cost for the meal is $45 per person, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations should be made by calling 407-938-0300 or visiting Raglan Road’s website.

Irish music, March 15- 16: Beginning at 6 p.m. each night, the bands Murphy’s Law (modern Irish music) and The Irish Rogues (ballads and other Irish folk tunes) perform on the Raglan Road patio.  Raglan’s own Creel starts playing at 7 p.m. on the main stage, and performances will include surprise guest appearances. Food and drink are available, and guests may order traditional fare such as fish ‘n chips and Shepherd’s pie.

St. Patrick’s Day, March 17: Raglan’s doors open at 11 a.m., with Creel taking to the main stage at noon and at various times throughout the day.  At 1 p.m. , the patio gets lively with Irish dancing from The Raglan Road Dancers and performers from the Watters School of Irish Dancing.  U2 tribute band Elevation will perform its versions of some of U2′s greatest hits. 

Throughout the day, guest will be able to order from the restaurant’s dinner menu, including the St. Patrick’s Day traditional Irish dish ­– loin of bacon and cabbage. Note: A $10 cover charge applies on March 17 for guests 18 years and older.
