Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend releases course descriptions and medal designs

The inaugural Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, the EPSN Wide World of Sports endurance race held at Walt Disney World Resort, released information on its race courses and finisher’s medals.

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend offers a nighttime half-marathon event, which includes a two-person relay option, the Mickey’s Halloween 5K Race & Party, kids’ races, and a two-day expo.

The Wine & Dine Half Marathon will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 at 10 p.m. The race takes participants into three theme parks and ends at Epcot’s World Showcase. Finishers, and spectators, may enjoy exclusive after-hours party featuring the opportunity to enjoy samples from the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

Mickey’s Halloween 5K & Party is Walt Disney World’s only 5K that goes into the Magic Kingdom. The 5K race will be held Saturday, Oct. 2 at 7 a.m. Costumed runners are welcomed at this Halloween-themed race. Participants receive admission to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary-Halloween Party (MNSSHP) on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010 as part of their race registration.

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon event and course information

In its inaugural year, the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon course begins at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex before heading west on Osceola Parkway to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, then Disney’s Hollywood Studios and on to Epcot’s World Showcase.

Once the race course moves into Disney’s Animal Kingdom, participants will move past the Tree of Life, Expedition Everest, and Dinosaur before exciting the theme park. The course then takes athletes to Disney’s Hollywood Studios (DHS), past The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Sunset Boulevard and onto Pixar Place and Toy Story Mania!

After going through the DHS Costuming Tunnel, runners and walkers will head toward Lights, Motor, Action! From there, participants move through the Streets of America and by Star Tours and Indiana Jones. From there, it’s on to Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts and Epcot’s international gateway and a finish-line party at the World Showcase.

Mickey’s Halloween 5K & Party event and course information

Mickey’s Halloween 5K course, the only 5k that moves through the Magic Kingdom, offers participants the opportunity to run or walk the short race surrounded by the theme park’s beloved icons and plenty of picture-taking opportunities.

The race course for Mickey’s Halloween 5K takes participants from Topiary Lane to Tony’s Town Square and Main Street, U.S.A. and onto Tomorrowland. There, athletes move past Space Mountain, under Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, and by Indy Car Motor Speedway. Participants then take the turn just before Fantasyland’s Mad Tea Party to head past the Rose Garden and in front of the photogenic Cinderella Castle. Then, in the spirit if the October Halloween-themed event, athletes head toward the Liberty Square and the Haunted Mansion and Hall of Presidents. From there, it’s on to the finish near the Ticket and Transportation Center outside the theme park.

This sounds so fun...it is making me lean more towards this weekend as I could at least watch and cheer you on! It really amazes me how much more WDW does in the way of events versus DL.
