Disney to release sing-along version of ‘Frozen’

Disney sure is putting out all the stops to ensure Frozen wins the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song Oscars on March 2nd. The studio will be showcasing an all-new sing-along version of their blockbuster musical in over 2000 theaters across the country starting this weekend. This marketing initiative comes after they released a multi-language version of “Let it Go,” the film’s show-stopping centerpiece, and news of the soundtrack topping the Billboard charts. And there’s still over a month left before the big ceremony.

While there’s a whiff of desperation to their antics, I can’t blame them. They still haven’t won a Best Animated Feature Oscar and it’s been 14 years* since one of their in-house animated features won a Best Original Song Oscar. Although the show-stopping “Let it Go” is widely tipped to win the award, the Mouse House is definitely not taking any chances – especially since it’s going up against heavily campaigned songs from Grammy-winning musicians Pharrell (“Happy” from Despicable Me 2) and U2 (“Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom).

I’ve included videos of the multi-language version of “Let it Go” as well as a snippet of the sing-along version below. Resist the urge to sing.

*Phil Collins won the Best Original Song Oscar for Tarzan in 1999. Pixar movies don’t count.
