On June 30, Disney Sports officially revealed the finisher race medals for the 2014 Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend. In keeping with the theme of the runDisney weekend, the medals feature some icons with the weekend’s various events: something a bit thrilling, a bit Disney scary, and something more than a bit kid friendly.
Disney Parks Blog unveiled the finisher’s medal for the Tower of Terror 10-Miler, the race weekend’s main event. It will once again focus on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction, a design that reflects the race’s theme and its finish near the Disney Hollywood Studios attraction. As in previous years, the medal features the Hollywood Tower Hotel, moving elevator component and glow-in-the-dark elements.
For the Disney Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run, the weekend’s family-friendly shorter distance, the finisher’s medal features the happy hitchhiking ghosts found at the Haunted Mansion. This year’s medallion glows in the dark, a new element and a complement to the 10-Miler medal.
An even friendlier medal has been designed the kids races held during the Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend. A trick-or-treating Donald Duck is featured on the brightly colored medallion, and is given to those children participating in the diaper dash, 100m, 200m 400m and 1-Mile races. The medallion is the same for all distances.
All runDisney medals designs also feature the race distance. The 10-Miler and 5K incorporate the distance into the medals’ designs. The ribbons for each medal differ for each event, and feature the race distance and Disney branding.
runDisney’s Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-Miler Weekend is now in its third year and will be held Oct. 3-4 at the Walt Disney World Resort. In addition to the races, the runDisney weekend include a Health & Fitness Expo and a post-race party for the Tower of Terror 10-Miler. Registration for the 10-Miler race includes access to the Disney Villains Hollywood Bash, the post-race party held at Disney’s Hollywood Studios; runners’ family and friends may purchase admission the party.
For 2014, The Tower of Terror 10-Miler and Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run are already sold out; runners may still find registration spots available through travel providers and charity groups. The runDisney Kids Races are 60% full as of the time of this writing.
