Disney’s been doing some moving and shaking with foreign RTL of Germany and UTV in India, the first deal is a rights acquisition by RTL to air Disney movies. Germany’s RTL has five free streaming channels and three pay TV channels. Their rights acquisition will give them the ability to broadcast Pixar, Marvel Studios, Disney and DreamWorks movies created from 2012 and beyond. The deal will also include ABC TV shows like Once Upon a Time.
In addition to this rights deal, Disney made another international deal by acquiring India’s UTV, their most popular entertainment and media companies. Investors of UTV will be paid a handsome premium for their shares, the company’s shares has already gained 124% in the past year with hints of buyout; Disney had already been increasing their stake to near 15% in 2006 far preceding this acquisition news. Their new name will be Walt Disney Co. India, giving Disney a distinct position in one of the fastest growing entertainment markets.
Disney owns and operates ABC networks, Radio Disney, ESPN and 35 other major radio networks, they also own and operate Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., Walt Disney World in Florida and other major theme parks and resorts in Hawaii, Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Their corporate headquarters are in Burbank, Calif.
