Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend 2011 update: Race registration opens

Beginning July 6, 2010, registration for Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend races is open. The weekend events, including the half-marathon headliner event, a Royal Family 5K race for individuals and families and kids’ races, takes place Feb. 24 – 27, 2011. Registration for these popular events continues until they reach capacity.

Disney’s Princess Half Marathon, which celebrates its third anniversary in 2011, is one of the largest U.S. endurance race weekends focused on women: the races are also open to men. Last year’s race attracted more than 18,000 participants for the events, with nearly 13,000 runners and walkers registering for the half marathon.

The Princess Half Marathon takes runners and walkers – the race features a walker-friendly 16 minute-per-miler pace requirement – on a whirlwind tour of Epcot and Magic Kingdom as the course takes athletes inside both parks. Half-marathon participants may register as individuals or as two-person teams. The Royal Family 5K offers a stroller division for those who want to "race" around Epcot with their small children.

In 2011, Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend moves to its new date, which is approximately one week earlier than previous years’ events.

Entry fees for the Princess Half Marathon vary by registration date. Individuals who register by Aug. 8, 2010 pay $120, while the fee for teams is $240. Registration fee for those who register between Aug. 9 –  Oct. 31, 2010 is $130 (individuals) and $260 (teams). For those who register between Nov. 1, 2010 – Feb. 26, 2011 pay $140 (individuals) and $280 (teams).

Entry fees for Disney’s Royal Family 5K is $45 for individuals and $50 for the stroller divisions. Fees for $10 for Disney’s Royal Family Kids Races $25 for Disney’s Royal Family 1-Mile Fun Run. All race registration is subject to capacity limits.

Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend entry fees include race registration and bibs, technical t-shirts, goody bags, and finisher medallion. Fees the 5K, kids’ races, half marathon also include course entertainment, race support, and post-race refreshments. Weekend events did reach capacity in 2009 and 2010, so athletes interested may wish to register early.

Information on and registration for Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend race events, or other races that are part of Disney's Endurance Series, can be found online at ESPN Wide World of Sports website.
