Each guest to Walt Disney World has their favorite ride to head to as soon as the gates are open and for many it is the Haunted Mansion. The Haunted Mansion’s creation was supervised by Walt Disney prior to his death. The Haunted Mansion opened in the Magic Kingdom on October 1, 1971 and has delighted guests ever since.
Haunted Mansion guests can chose to go through the interactive queue that was created in 2011 or to go directly to the beginning of the ride line. The queue is sure to entertain guests of all ages as they play games with ghostly hosts that respond to their questions and commands. Guests wander through several sections including the musical crypt, the sepulcher of the sea captain, the tomb of the posthumous poetess and the secret library. Little ones will love to touch the musical instruments on the tomb to make them play an eerie tune.
Guests begin their journey in the chamber room where they are invited to step all of the way into the dead center of the room. They then are entertained as the walls begin to reveal stretching portraits. The pre-show is abruptly concluded with the host’s way out of the room, which may frighten small children.
Guests then proceed to the ride area where they step on to a continuously moving conveyor belt to board their ride vehicles, which are referred to as Doom Buggies. One website has even named itself after the ride vehicles and provides guests with hours of trivia about the Haunted Mansion. In April 2004 Disney released a movie based on the ride Featuring Eddie Murphy titled, The Haunted Mansion.
The ride combines spooky sounds, special effects and 999 ghosts to create a whimsical ride through the mansion and out the back door for a trek through the graveyard, where animated busts sing the signature song of the ride, Grim Grinning Ghosts. At the end of the ride guests squeal with delight and fear as a ghosts joins their doom buggy to join them on their ride home. Wichitans visiting Disney World or Disneyland this spring should take time to check out this dark slow moving ride that is sure to delight guests of all ages with its whimsical ghost hosts.
