Disney Princesses, improv and more for Chicago children this summer

Thorpedo Productions returns to Gorilla Tango Bucktown to improvise the family-friendly Build-A-Tale show at 3 p.m. on the last Saturday of the month, from June 28 through August 30. “Allowing kids to participate in this hands-on jam portion of the show helps them grasp the concepts and themes of the performance they just saw in an unforgettable way,” explains the show’s creator Andrew Thorp. “And, parents laughing at their children's improvised choices is an added benefit to the performance.” Tickets ($10) to the show at 1919 N. In Glenview, the Kohl Children’s Museum presents Story Time for kids on Mondays at 11 a.m. and Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. To learn more about the interactive event, visit www.kohlchildrensmuseum.org/story-time.

In Evanston, Northwestern University’s Imagine U Family Series presents hourlong productions designed to engage children aged 6 to 10.

Based on the book of the same name by Eleanor Estes, The Hundred Dresses performs from July 10 through July 27 at the Hal and Martha Hyer Wallis Theater. Tickets are $10, however discounts are available for groups of eight or more.

The series also presents Kids Brave and True: An Evening of Songs and Stories at 7:30 p.m. on July 22 and July 26 at the Hal and Martha Hyer Wallis Theater. General admission is $5.

The final series installment, Princess Power: A Disney Concert Celebration, performs at 2 p.m. on August 2-3 at the Ethel M. Barber Theater. Songs from Snow White, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen are included. Tickets range fro, $10 to $15.
