On Tuesday, March 18 Comingsoon.net posted the news that Walt Disney Pictures is planning to make the animated adventures "Cars 3" and the long awaited "The Incredibles 2," which are sequels to films that were released nearly a decade ago.
"The Incredibles" was released back in 2004 and was the sixth animated release from Pixar. The film follows a family of superheroes who have to hide their powers and live in society with everyone else, until an evil villain targets them. The film brought in over six hundred million dollars at the box office and was the first Pixar film to earn multiple Oscars, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Best Original Screenplay and Best Sound Mixing.
The film was directed by Brad Bird, who revealed at the time he would be willing to return for another animated adventure with the characters. He is currently in development on the script, which is expected to see Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack help their parents fight off evil as a family unit.
"Cars" was a computer animated adventure released in 2006 which went on to win a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film and broke retail sales records in toys based on the film's characters. The film grossed over four hundred and sixty million dollars at the box office, and was the most financially and critically successful film of 2006.
The story follows a race car named Lightning McQueen who gets lost on the way to a race and ends up in the small town of Radiator Springs. Both the original and the 2011 sequel, "Cars 2," were directed by John Lasseter and a theme park called Cars Land based on the film recently opened at Disneyland. "Cars 3" is currently in development by Pixar with no announced release date, and story details are being kept under wraps.
