Disney is coming to a train station near you from May 22 to November 1, 2009, and their first whistle-stop is in Los Angeles, promoting the November 6, 2009 film release of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker, Robert Zemeckis, and starring Jim Carrey as Ebenezer Scrooge.
Disney, very much in the news today after making history at last night’s 2009 Cannes Film Festival opening, with the screening of their soon-to-be-released (May 29) 3D film, Up, is getting an early publicity launch with this 40-city, 16,000-mile, (Christmas-in-summer) train tour.
The tour will include: actual vintage rail cars; a sneak peek of the film’s 3D footage; carolers; child-friendly interactive technology; samples of the film’s artwork, costumes and props as well as genuine “artifacts on loan from the Charles Dickens Museum in London”, all “set amidst a snowy backdrop” according to Disney’s press release.
Train stops will range from one to three days in length, and the four-car (plus a private car) train will be operated by Amtrak locomotives and engineers.
The event is free; appropriate for all ages and coming to a train station near you.
