Disney Infinity Will Start Printing Money This Summer

Toys for Bob and Activision have pretty much been printing money since Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure was released. It was only a matter of time before someone came along and created their own version.

I can just see the discussion now.

Disney Guy 1: So. Skylanders right? This stuff is crazy. They make action figures out of these dudes and when they put them on this portal thing.... they pop into a family friendly video game.

Disney Guy 2: Wait. We have dudes. We can make action figures. We can make family friendly video games.

Disney Guy 1: Mind... blown.

The result of this discussion: Disney Infinity. Take a look at the video to get a peek at the announcement.

The long and short of it is that Disney will be releasing a game that has obviously been inspired by the success of Skylanders. Players will be able to purchase action figures of some of their favorite Disney characters and place them on a Disney Infinity portal.

It is, in effect, very similar to how Skylanders works. The biggest difference is that each figure is not only a character to be played in the main gain, but it also includes its own separate game that carries along with it its own aesthetic and game play modes.

The specific details about pricing are all over the web, but suffice it to say that the figures will be a bit more expensive because of the extra content.

Now, I've seen some folks complain about it because they feel it's a cash grab and those complaints are justified until we see the quality of the products. But, I think we, as parents, should look forward to it. This game and its associated figures have some great possibilities.

Disney and Pixar tend to release new movies from time to time. When they do the licensed games based on the movie are inevitable and our kids are sure to want them. (They always have... why would it stop now?) A part of me feels that spending $13.99 on a figure to play the Disney Infinity version of the movie sounds great compared to the $60 full retail games that get churned out.

What do you think? Am I nuts? Sound off in the comments!
