'Disney Infinity' video explains playsets, most powerful character teased

Disney Interactive released a new video for Disney Infinity on Thursday that explains a little about playsets and how characters work. Producer John Day also drops a hint about which is the most powerful character PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and PC game and its not exactly who you would think.

Owning certain Disney Infinity toys from different franchises will unlock play sets for those franchises in-game. For example, Lightning McQueen can be played with in the Cars play set but not the Toy Story play set. Meanwhile, Jack Sparrow will open up the Pirates of the Caribbean play set but is not available for Monsters University.

Each play set will keep their own franchise and characters but will have unique gameplay opportunities. The Incredibles is more action-based while Monsters University is more stealth-adventure as Mike and Sully try to pull pranks.

However, all of the toys will be available in the Toy Box which is essentially a sandbox mode that players can move around in freely and customize how it looks and even create their own games with it.

As for the most powerful character in the game, you would almost expect Day to say someone like Mr. Incredible, Jack Sparrow or Davy Jones. Instead, the producer says that Violet from The Incredibles is the most powerful toy in his opinion. For those unfamiliar, she's the older sister that can turn invisible and project force fields similar to the Fantastic Four's Invisible Woman.

Disney Infinity will be released Aug. 18 for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, Nintendo 3DS and PC. You can check out the "What is Disney Infinity? Episode 1 'Play Set Overview'" in our video gallery.
