Perhaps the most eagerly awaited float in the upcoming Festival of Fantasy Parade, which starts in March at the Magic Kingdom, is the steampunk Maleficent dragon float. Although the media didn't get to see the actual float at the February 10 float and costume sneak preview, they were treated to two of the costumes that will be worn by some of Maleficent's minions.

Click the slideshow accompanying this article to see the impressive thorny stilt walker and the raven with a wingspan of 12 feet. They have a darkly elegant color scheme and costumes that fit right in with the steampunk influence of the 53 foot dragon float.

Like the other magnificent wear in the parade, their costumes were designed by Mirena Rada. They'll be out working the crowd in a fashion reminiscent of the old Tapestry of Nations parade that graced World Showcase at Epcot from 1999 to 2001, although they're certainly more intimidating than the benevolent characters from that classic parade.

Of course, this is Walt Disney World, so good will triumph over evil. You'll see Prince Phillip battling the dragon as it makes its way along the parade route. It has an articulating chassis that allows it to bend and flex, and the fiery eyes and glowing effects will likely make the float a huge crowd favorite. It was designed in partnership with Tony Award winner Michael Curry.
