On Jan. 21, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club released information on its upcoming schedule of events for members. Among the D23 highlights for 2014: a two-day Destination D to be held at Walt Disney World Resort, “members” days at Walt Disney Studios and Archives, and several Fanniversary Celebrations where D23 brings Disney magic to several major cities across the country.

D23’s Destination D: Attraction Rewind. Held July 26 and 25 at Walt Disney World Resort, Destination D is this year’s signature event for fans of Disney Parks history. The event’s two days will feature rarely-seen concept art and images; vintage video clips; and stories presented by Disney archivists, Imagineers, Legends and other notable figures.

This Destination D event, presented by H2O Plus, offers its attendees the opportunity to re-experience such attractions as Adventure Thru Inner Space, If You Had Wings, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea as well as to see presentations focused on the 1964–65 New York World’s Fair, which was an early showcase for it’s a small world and Carousel of Progress.

Destination D events are very much in demand by members, and sell out quickly. Disney fans planning to go should attempt to register for the event when it first opens; those not yet member should join in advance of event slots going on sale.

D23’S “Lunch with a Legend” series. On Jan. 31, a limited number of D23 Members will have the chance to have a private lunch with Disney Legend Marty Sklar on The Walt Disney Studios lot. Marty will talk about his 54 years with Disney. D23 plans to add more “Legendary” lunches later in the year.

D23’s Disney Fanniversary Celebrations. Now in their third year, these events mark some of Disney anniversaries and milestones: for the parks, films and television, characters, and other aspects of The Walt Disney Company. As the event’s name implies, D23 takes the celebration to the fans; D23 archivists and the D23 Team travel to several U.S. cities. In 2014, Disney Fanniversary Celebrations will take place in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Orlando, New York City and Seattle, as well as other cities yet to be announced.

This year’s Fanniversary events focus on Donald Duck, the 1964–65 New York World’s Fair, “Sleeping Beauty,” Haunted Mansion, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and “The Little Mermaid,” among other Disney moments. D23’s Disney Fanniversary events are open to the public, but offers special admission prices and surprises created for D23 Members in attendance. These smaller gatherings are a good place for members to enjoy some more informal conversations with the D23 Team and archivists as well as for Disney fans who are not yet members to see what D23 has to offer on a local level.

D23 screenings. The “Mary Poppins” 50th anniversary screening will take place on Aug. 24 in the Los Angeles area. Details to be released. In addition, D23 will continue to offer movie screenings inside the historic Studio Theatre at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. D23’s Disney shopping experiences.

  • Mickey’s of Glendale. This popular event for the Disney collector allows D23 members to shop at the Walt Disney Imagineering employee store in Glendale, Calif. Mickey’s will open to D23 Members on April 26, June 21, and other dates throughout the year. These events not only include the chance to purchase limited-edition merchandise in an event that includes special guests and surprises, but the opportunity to see Walt Disney Parks & Resorts’ creative “think tank.”
  • Disney Store Member Mixers. In 2013, D23 helped its members get a look at the re-imagined stores of Florida, Kansas, New Jersey, California, and Nevada. This year, Disney Store will again welcome D23 Members for exclusive mornings of fun, games and discounts.

D23 Signature Events. Several popular events, such as the holiday-themed Disney and Dickens event that takes place in Burbank in December, will return in 2014. D23 will announce additional events throughout the year.

Dates, ticketing information, and more D23 events will be announced throughout the year. Full details on D23’s schedule of 2014 special events can be found at D23: The Official Disney Fan Club’s events page. All events and dates are subject to change.
