A Disney Cruise Line cast member is now a former employee of the company after he was arrested on Thursday, April 10, 2014, on charges of molesting a 13-year-old female passenger. Click Orlando reported that 36-year-old crew member Ahmed Sofyan of Jakarta, Indonesia, was charged with two counts of lew or lascivious molestation and one count of false imprisonment.
Sofyan was arrested by the Port Canaveral Police Department while the Disney Dream was docked in Port Canaveral, Florida. This is where the alleged incident occurred just after 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.
The 13-year-old female victim was said to not know Sofyan.
Canaveral Port Authority was called to the Disney Dream and an investigation took place. After a bit of time, Sofyan was arrested and transported to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office Jail, where he was still being held as of late Thursday evening.
“We have no tolerance whatsoever for the behavior alleged in this incident,” said Karl Holz, President of Disney Cruise Line, in a release. “We are sorry that anything of this nature could have occurred on one of our ships. We place enormous value on the trust our guests have in us, and nothing is more important to us than the safety and security of each and every one of our guests.”
Upon finding out about the alleged attack, Disney Cruise Line officials contacted not only the Port Canaveral Police, but also the FBI and U.S. Coast Guard.
There is no word on whether or not Sofyan has a lawyer.
