Disney Cruise Line to debut ‘Wishes’ musical show on Disney Fantasy

On Dec. 6, Disney Parks Blog announced some of the stage shows and entertainment that will be introduced on the Disney Fantasy, the newest shop of the Disney Cruise Line. One of the highlights of this family-friendly entertainment is the “Wishes” stage show.

“Wishes” on the Disney Fantasy is a 45-minute musical show that takes place in the 1,340 seat Walt Disney Theatre. Its story focuses on three best friends who learn that “discover the secret to being a grown-up is staying connected to their inner child.” At Disneyland, naturally.

The three lead characters – best friends Kayla and Nicole, and Nicole’s twin brother Brandon – visit “the happiest place on Earth” to celebrate their high school graduation. They’re uncertain as to what the future holds so they make a wish to go on the “Ride of Our Lives,” which becomes the show’s original opening number.

Wishes being magical, the teens’ wish opens the door to a world with  Disney characters – including Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, Lilo and Stitch, King Louie, Mulan, Hercules, Pinocchio, Timon and Pumbaa – guide them ton their magical, musical journey.

In the final act of “Wishes,” the three friends have a a graduation party set to “Breakthrough,” from the Disney’s Channel’s “Lemonade Mouth.”

But the show offers more than just catchy tunes. “Wishes” features full-scale production numbers and special effects to complement the performances of both original music and classic Disney songs updated with a contemporary twist.

Some fun facts about those production numbers? They features 12 Disney characters and 25 performers. It uses more than 18 different puppets including state-of-the-art mechanical and electro-mechanical full-body puppets. Plus, the show’s celebratory journey offers a bit of a party atmosphere, with two separate confetti drops and an indoor fireworks finale.

As for the music, here’s a quick look at some of the showstoppers:

  • In an over-the-top musical comedy production number, the song “I’ve Got a Dream” from “Tangled” sets the scene as the Snuggly Duckling Tavern comes alive, with Rapunzel, Flynn Rider and a tavern full of hilarious thugs.
  • In the “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from “Lilo and Stitch” scene, the stage fills with giant windsurfing sails, kites and surf boards. The infectious music inspires Kayla as she rides a surfboard, flying atop a giant blue wave silk.
  • King Louie and the Monkeys perform a high-energy swing band version of “I Wanna Be Like You” from the Jungle Book.
