Guests who enjoy a little luxury while vacationing on the Disney Cruise Line (DCL) may enjoy dining at Royal Palace. The Palace will be one of the themed Main Dining restaurants on the Disney Dream, the newest ship in the line that will set sail in Jan. 2011.
Royal Palace will offer French-inspired, continental fare in an elegant setting modeled after classic Disney animated movies. Located on Deck 3 of Disney Dream, Royal Palace’s décor is inspired by films such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast.
As fitting the venue’s inspiration, the walls offer hand-painted portraits of Disney princesses and princes. Its marble entryway offers details from the films – a royal crest with a pumpkin coach, glass slipper, rose, and tiara.
The restaurant’s circular floor plan was designed based on the Cinderella ballroom scene, with such touches as fluted columns and an iron railing. Other details in the Royal Palace include marble floors and a rose carpet, a chandelier featuring glass slippers and roses, embellished chair backs and portholes topped with tiaras.
Adding to the atmosphere will be how guests are, as one might expect, treated as royalty. Guests dining at the Royal Palace will be greeted with a bow or curtsey, while the menus are designed to look like decrees – written in calligraphy font and adorned with a wax seal.
Dining at Disney Dream’s Royal Palace
Dinner at Royal Palace is a 4-course meal that features a seasonal menu designed to appeal to all palates, including a children’s menu filled with traditional favorites.
Dinner is also part of the ship’s reserved Rotational Dining, which allows guests to “rotate” among three distinctly themed restaurants each night. The Royal Palace joins Animator’s Palate and the Enchanted Garden in this designation. In Rotational Dining, guests are issued dining tickets with an assigned seating time, schedule, and table number.
The dress code for dinner changes daily, and more information on requirements are released with the Personal Navigator, the DCL onboard newsletter. No tank tops, swim wear, or shorts should be worn for dinner, however.
Royal Palace is also available for a full-service lunch or breakfast buffet on select dates – again, check with the Personal Navigator for details.
Along with Royal Palace, Animator’s Palate, and Enchanted Garden, the Disney Dream will feature two upscale restaurants, Palo and Remy, and a number of other casual dining options.
The Disney Dream is scheduled to sail in January 2011, traveling from Port Canaveral to Nassau, Bahamas, and Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. Its cruises will offer 3-, 4-, and 5-night itineraries.
