Disney Cruise Line European Port Adventures with Youth Activities

The announcement of the remaining 2014 Disney Cruise Line itineraries were met with mixed emotions. Disney is known for being family friendly and when the European itineraries were announced it caused a debacle for parents who’ve been waiting for Disney Cruise Line to return to Europe, but want a family vacation as well. The itineraries have parents wondering “Should I take my kids to Europe?”

The debate about what age is the right age to expose your children to a European vacation is subjective, but Disney has Port Adventures for the whole family.

Mar. 5 Disney announced that the Port Adventures team has partnered with the Youth Activities Counselors to provide unique, culturally enriching experiences in these exciting new ports. During these excursions your time ashore will be a mix of sightseeing, visiting cultural landmarks and allowing your kids hands on activities under the supervision of the Youth Activities Team while you do some exploring on your own.

Excursions in Venice and Greece, featuring the Youth Activities Team, have been detailed on the Disney Cruise Line website.

The excursion in Venice, Italy will allow families transportation via private boat to the Venetian’s favorite square to experience a guided tour of several popular and historic landmarks. The journey continues to the former residence of the Rulers of Venice with its own famous landmarks within. The Youth Activities team will meet up with your family to learn the history of Venetian masks (dating back to 1700) and the kids will be under the supervision of the Youth Activities Team for an hour long make-your-own mask session. Adults are free to roam in the surrounding areas, shopping or sightseeing while the kids are having their own fun.

Delos Island, Greece will feature a trip to the island which is the birthplace of mythological superstars Apollo and Artemis. The walking tour takes you into the heart of the sanctuary to view the Temple of Apollo and the dried lake with palm tree and the famous lions. View the terrace of the foreign gods and view the archipelago. Through the theatre into the Hellenistic mansions of Delos and view the mosaics decorated with Dionysus, a dolphin and a trident. The Youth Activities Team will meet up with the kids for an hour long workshop making their own mosaics. Parents can enjoy the time sightseeing in Mykonos.

These are just two examples of the family friendly adventures available for the 2014 Disney Cruise Line itineraries and I’ll keep you posted as more information is given about the Port Adventures at these new and exciting ports of call.
