Disney announces new characters in Star Tours: The Adventures Continue

Disney has announced they will have several characters on the new Star Tours: The Adventures Continue. The attraction opening has been pushed back twice since it’s original opening date of May 10. It is now scheduled to open sometime in June. One can only assume that the later opening is due to some exciting new details. And Disneyland is not going to open it until it is perfect.

In their pursuit to “pack as much Star Wars into the attraction as possible”, they have made some pretty awesome changes. Aside from the supposed 54 different possible adventures, there is now a considerable amount of famous characters included as well.

The original Star Tours had appearances from favorites R2-D2 and C3PO. They will return in the new Star Tours. But while the previous incarnation was set after Episode six, this one will be set prior to episode 4. And many of the characters that were long since passed after episode 6, will be alive and well.

Those characters include Princess Leia, Admiral Akbar, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, Yoda, and of course, Darth Vader.

No word yet on if guests will get to see all of these famous characters on each trip or if they are only in select experiences.

The appearance of characters such as Princess Leia and Boba Fett gives a more specific reference to the time in which it takes place. It would have to take place closer to episode 4 as opposed to episode 3. Otherwise both would have been small children.

The appearance of Yoda is a bit confusing and/or troubling as he had gone into hiding following episode 3 (Revenge of the Sith.) The very next time he makes an appearance is in episode 5 (The Empire Strikes Back.) So how exactly a group of tourists in a Star Speeder will catch a glimpse of him is quite a mystery indeed.

For now, Disneyland is feeding fans just enough to keep them out-of-their-mind excited about the newest addition (or remake, whatever) to the park. I will keep everyone updated on all the details as I hear them.
