After the success of Activision's Skylanders, Disney is continuing to blur the line of video game and toys with the announcement of "Disney Infinity".
"Disney Infinity" was announced this Tuesday and will feature over 30 collectible figures that can be scanned into the game world of Infinity. So far three Disney franchises have been revealed to make an appearance on the "Infinity" and they include "The Incredibles", "Monster Inc." and "Pirates of the Caribbean." "Disney Infinity" will have two primary game modes: play sets and toy box mode.
"Disney Infinity" will include an USB-based peripheral which will allow players to swap in different Disney characters through the use of the figurines. In each play set there are mechanics and play designs that are suited for each franchise so it wont be possible to swap in Jack Sparrow while playing the "Monster Inc" play set. However, franchises can be combined in the toy box mode.
Toy box mode is for those that want to combine different Disney franchises in customizable environment that will players to develop there own adventures.
"Disney Infinity" is set to be released in Summer 2013 and a starter pack will cost $79.99, a play set will cost $34.99, and a figure will cost $12.99. Infinity will be cross-platform with releases on the PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Wii U and 3DS.
