Dish Network announced that it has resolved its dispute with Fox Sports 1 and will air that network’s college football games this weekend. This is a reversal of a previous announcement that the contests would be blacked out because of a rate dispute with the Fox-owned outlet.
None of the contests involve Cal or Stanford, but two of them feature other Pac-12 squads. They are Rutgers vs. Washington State on Thursday and Colorado St. vs. Colorado on Friday. The other two other matchups are North Dakota State vs. Iowa State on Saturday and SMU vs. Baylor on Sunday.
Dish launched a web page at Dishsportsvalue.com originally to declare its position in the fracas but has revamped the page to reflect that the situation has been resolved.
This is good news for Bay Area Dish subscribers because if this impasse had continued, it would’ve eventually affected Cal and Stanford. Right now, the only scheduled contest on FS1 featuring a local Pac-12 squad is Cal’s October 24 scrimmage against Oregon. But since most Pac-12 matchups after Week 3 haven’t been scheduled yet, there’s a good chance FS1 will have more kickoffs involving the Cardinal or Bears.
This resolution demonstrates that sometimes cooler heads can prevail and disputes between networks and cable/satellite companies can be solved. Maybe this good news will spread to the folks at the Pac-12 Network and DirecTV.
Keep your fingers crossed.
