Sometimes, and I think this applies to 23 year old Devon Alexander and his 10th round exit Saturday night from a bout he was losing widely on points to busy bee Timothy Bradley, discretion really is the better part of valor.
Alexander wasn't going to win the fight.
No way, Don Jose, was he ever going to put the mucscular (is that a 12 pack?) Bradley down or out. And no way could he catch up to eke out a decision without sweeping rounds 10, 11 and 12 and that wasn't going to occur, either. Bradley was rolling along.
Like any young fighter, Alexander's got a liveliehood, a career, to protect.
Whether something seeped from the cut above his right eye or not, he did get head rammed by Human Billygoat Bradley several times, the worst being the final accidental butt.
Some will quibble and say that ramming was done intentionally but that's moronic.
Bradley and his corner knew he was comfortably in front on the scorecards so why take a risk of losing by DQ or even having a point or two deducted from the head slamming?
Bradley needs to adjust his offensive style to stop his constant butting and I bet he will tone it down.
Bottom line on Alexander?
I say neither Devon or his manager-trainer Kevin Cunningham, whose X-rated corner vocabularly sounds like Richard Pryor cutting loose, have anything to apologize for here.
Alexander gave a good effort but Bradley was like a steamroller, albeit a steamroller without real power.
Alexander was not The Great. He lost to the very good Bradley.
But, at the tender age of 23, there will be many other fights, many other nights.
Devon did not run away and he was in real pain.
He lives to fight another day and I, for one, don't blame him for not persisting.
His was a lost cause and "going out on your shield" is overrated.
The light-hitting Bradley could've won on the cut but he wasn't going to stretch Alexander out.
Alexander showed valor and discretion.
Good for him.

All these fighters will not demand a blood test, the match gets SCRIPTED and do not talk anything to the media, coz you made your million, and got wiped. Just check all the previous guys he fought and pay attention if they are even mentioning the blood test or if Packroids is taking something.

The fight was a total crap,, how do you expect casual fans to watch boxing if the ones they are goin to televised (hyped) are fights like this, or fighters like this. Both of them have no power in their hands, both over rated, crap fighters,bradley look like a short alien who punches soft,headbutt a lot and clicnch a lot,You got the feeling that he should be in wrestling.YOU know from the get go that there would be no knockdowns let alone a knockout,alexander was irritating shouting shouting haaahhh haaahhh when punching. The fight was boring to death, the undercard was way better, heavy weight knocking the other heavyweight then drama/emotion after the fight by the winner, and the one where the unbeaten welterwight lose after hitting the canvas three times. The latter fight pique the interest of casual fans..the classic boxer vs the puncher., pacman regardless of who he fights provides excitement because viewers anticipate a knockout either way because pacman can whallop a punch and also be hit..he's a crossover star to mainstream . While mayweather fights are boring..he has skills but fans don't like that he's too boring ,purists love the way he fights but not casual fans..In NBA pacquiao is to Jordan while mayweather is to Tim Duncan both have tremendous skills but jordan is explosive while Tim is boring.
if there is a suspect of fix fights in boxing - its the mosley mayweather fight . . . look at the fight again and note down comments from nazeem and the rest . . . mosley would have beaten floyd . . . but again the golden boys are the master of theatrics . . . the boxing world should investigate that fight . . .

im not a filipino and my currently country don't have elite boxers as filipino, american, mexican etc... but i am a boxing fan. i dont know if all words i saw in any boxing forum that always says pacroids is a real boxing fan or am thinking they are under mayweather's payroll or it is his close friends, because there is no concrete evidence that pacquiao is taking PED's as of the moment. against pacman, margarito's eye was even worse than a headbutt on the left eye of alexander which i see no blood or swelling at all. It's a choice, devon decided not to continue bcoz he knew that round that he cant win the fight. I thought it was a bad commenting on the broadcast. Alexander clearly had a gash on his left eye - small but deep and closer to the eye, and his facial expression suggested he was pained on his left side (and saying "it stings") coz the skin is stretched when he opens his eyes. He never gave any indication that it was the right side. From what I saw

If there is such thing as overhyped fight, it was the Bradley-Alexander fight.
If this is all that slick American fighters can do, then American boxing will surely die. Not even stuart, or any of the HBO analysts/broadcaster could make the fight exciting no matter how they tried because it was a boring fight.
