Discovery’s “Flying Wild Alaska” Ariel Tweto: Alaskan tomboy to California girl

She is one of the spunkiest girls on Discovery Channel, and is a ball of perpetual motion.

Ariel Tweto, one of the stars of the hit show “Flying Wild Alaska”, which airs on the network every Friday, helps her family run their bush plane business out of Unakleet, AK. The business is a lifeline to the smaller communities in “The Last Frontier”.

We got to talk to Tweto about her life outside the show.

Very athletic at an early age, Tweto would roughhouse with her cousins. She would ultimately join the wrestling team in middle school, and enjoyed success pinning her male counterparts.

“I hopped on in and started beating the guys, which was a big ego boost for me,” Tweto remembered. “It’s sort of sad at the same time too because you beat them and some of them start crying. Then it’s just awkward.”

The athleticism wuld continue throughout her life; especially when she recently migrated south to sunny California to go to college. The move has had its benefits.

“I love the sun. I love being warm. I haven’t had a moment of being bored yet,” Tweto admitted. “Recently, I went running, and this guy who was randomly who was paddle surfing in the canal next to the boardwalk asked if I wanted to jump on his board, so I went paddle boarding.”

Having competed several times on the ABC show “Wipeout”, Tweto is hoping to get into stunt work after her college tenure. She is also setting a lofty goal during her stay in the Golden State.

“I am a big runner. I run everyday and I am trying to beat the Guinness Book of World Records for the most consecutive days run.”

Don’t get Tweto wrong. She isn’t about to give up on her birth place. With the family business booming and some of the friendliest people around, she is going to make sure Alaska will always be in her thoughts.

“I’m going to balance myself. I am going to help with the family business,” Tweto stated. “I love traveling and love meeting new people. I am going to stick California for a while. But Alaska will always be where my heart’s at. I like being with my sisters, mom, and dad. I’ll be getting a lot of miles in.”
