"I'm proud of him as an Asian, and good luck to his career" -- Manny Pacquiao's message to Jeremy Lin
As 8-Division World Champion Manny Pacquiao visited New York City, otherwise known as the home of "Lin-sanity", to promote his late spring showdown with undefeated jr. welterweight king Timothy Bradley, more similarities between boxing's pound-for-pound king and Manhattan's new shining star come to surface.
Other than the fact that both men are Asian and are not on Floyd Mayweather, Jr.'s "Favorite People List" like New York rapper 50 Cent, both Pacquiao and Lin are men of faith.
Lin is a devout Christian who conducted bible studies in his dorm while in Harvard, while Pacquiao's renewed faith has him being pegged by the Philippines' Catholic church as their "bible ambassador". Invite Philippines-born NFL quarterback Tim Tebow to the mix and you have a group of superstar athletes who can fill up arenas while chopping up scripture as well they can fill up stat sheets.
And if Mayweather decides to 'tweet' Lin and challenge him to a fight, the Taiwanese-American will share Pacquiao's reluctance to take extra drug testing. He is, of all things, deathly afraid of needles. "We had to get flu shots," said a former roommate in college in an article by GQ.com. "And he was like, 'I can't do this.' I had to convince him not to duck out a side door. That's the most uncollected I've ever seen him," the roommate added.

But what Lin does not share with Pacquiao, contrary to some rumors circling on Twitter, is that the Knicks point guard does not have Filipino blood in his veins. Many speculated based on a misreading of an article published in the New York Times that Lin's mother is part-Filipino.
The obvious of Pacquiao and Lin's similarities is the fact that both are underdogs that persevered. Though "Lin-sanity" is still in its baby stages, Lin's unlikely rise from obscurity and how he has overcome the many obstacles throughout his pursuit of his basketball dream, is nothing short of remarkable. And who would have thought a tiny Filipino like Pacquiao can become the phenomenon that he still is today?
Amazin' Asians.
