Atlanta schools have a few more weeks before the children are set free for the summer. However, you do not have to wait until the dead heat of summer to enjoy the many wonderful places just a short driving distance from Atlanta.

Long road trips can tire the kids (and the driver); and they sometimes take away from the total fun of the excursion. Callaway Gardens is located between Atlanta and Columbus, GA. It is a brief drive; and offers a lot for families. This makes it ideal for those shorter weekend trips.

For more enticing events that will beckon you to come on down, you may want to check out their event calendar for this year by clicking here.

However, Callaway Gardens beckons people from all over the United States. It is a very popular vacation place for many from all across the country.

Bringing up our own family, we grew tired of our annual trek to Florida. And once we discovered Callaway Gardens, there was just no better spot for our family than there. They have it all and shade as well.

Callaway toots their own horn:

“Callaway Gardens is a spectacular 13,000 acres of beautiful Georgia countryside in the near Pine Mountain, Georgia. It is home of the world's largest azalea display, one of North America's biggest butterfly conservatories, and magnificent vegetable garden where PBS' "The Victory Garden" is filmed, this Georgia retreat is the perfect destination for family vacations or romantic getaways.”

There is a peaceful little chapel secreted way back in the woods. It is made of stone and has lovely stained-glass windows that depict the four seasons. It is the site of many small, and intimate weddings. Bookings have to be made way in advance.

A second toot from their own horn:

“Our comprehensive conference center provides facilities for trade shows and corporate events – all in an exquisite Georgia garden setting. Whether you need a boardroom or a meeting amphitheater, day accommodations or overnight lodging, take advantage of affordable business packages for your next corporate event or retreat.”

Callaway offers an abundance of fun things to do and see. They offer events all year round beginning with the azaleas in the spring to the fantastic Christmas display hundreds of thousands of lights.

The butterfly conservatory is a must see as they beckon you on down with this additional invitation.

“Chase butterflies in our enclosed conservatory, get personal with birds of prey at our outdoor free-flight show, or soak up the Georgia sunshine on our white-sand beach. With outdoor activities like golf, tennis, bicycling, hiking, and more, the family fun never ends!”

Callaway Gardens also offers three distinctive lodging options for your family vacation, romantic retreat or business event. Call 1-800-CALLAWAY (225.5292) for reservations.

You will enjoy cruising through the gardens via their web site. Plan to spend a little extra time there with you paper and pen as you plan your next road trip.
