Dawn is a renowned Perfumer, certified Aromatherapist whom has been practicing this unique art, and trade for over 19 years. Masterly educated and born with an innate sense of smell in which scents and fragrances are not just a single note, rather they become multi-dimensional and upon her first take or experience, an essential oil evolves into shapes, colors, textures, light, lines, and feelings.
Her collections are sold throughout the world, but in order to experience this first hand you must travel to the ESSENCE Studio.
Inspired by her surroundings, Dawn’s ESSENCE Studio is located in Boulder, Colorado. Formerly an artist, she began her career on the famous Newbury Street of Boston in which her first fragrance collection and the ESSENCE Studio, was created. The concept of her first collection was based on single notes of essential oils and aromatherapy mixtures.
She continued to blend and has since developed numerous ESSENCE Studio collections as well as unique fragrances for niche markets such as the Denver Art Museum’s King Tut Exhibit, Flora Napa Valley, Calypso, Jules & Jane and Zents Spa Collection.
The ESSENCE Studio consists of Dawn’s personally sourced collection of over 800 essential oils from around the world. Each essential oil is grouped into families and each family has distinct characteristics. For example, in each family, the origin of the essence creates its own distinction; In the Woody/Cyphre family, Virginia Cedar smells much different than Texas Cedar.
This niche perfumery offers tiered levels of service. A walk-in retail area allows those to sample different creative collections that range from aromatherapy, botanicals and specific concepts.
A beginning level of consultation allows guests to schedule a one-on-one or group session with various intern aromatherapists and/or perfurmists whom Dawn mentors. They provide personal blending services, free of a consultation charge. This service only includes the cost of the personally blended product from a variety of 60 essential oils at a cocktail bar within the retail area.
Dawn also provides a personal consultation service at $75 per hour and by appointment only. The consulting fee does not include the cost of the perfume. However, this experience is well worth it and includes a more in depth variety from her collection of 800 essential oils. Her personal consultation begins with her uniquely developed Smell & Tell test, which involves analyzing your skin type based on fragrance families in order to create a personal signature scent that best suits you. The process is delicate, yet complicated. And there is an art and science to her method.
This experience is incredibly personal and the creation continues as she layers essential oils onto your skin using her skill to determine additional notes that need to be added to develop your own signature scent. The consultation concludes with the blending of your scent in proportion of the method of application. A beautiful and fascinating process.
With each level of consultation and blending, guests walk away with an extended knowledge of essences that resonate with them. Along with a beautifully packaged glass bottle and a signature scent that they can call their own.
The formula of your creation is also recorded in their database. Guests are encouraged to express their creativity and name their personally blended scents, which can be reordered at anytime.
A truly remarkable and unique experience that expands one’s world to the essences of scent.
