Discover the historic charm of Seguin, Texas

Today, Seguin is within commuting distance of the sprawling metropolis of San Antonio. But Seguin, founded in 1838, is one of the oldest towns in Texas and it still retains its historic small-town charm.

Kick off your tour of Seguin's historic sites with a visit to Sebastopol House, one of the country's best preserved examples of early experimentation with limecrete construction. Exhibits show the techniques that slaves used to build this1856 Greek Revival-style house, using an early form of concrete derived from local materials. By the late 19th century there were about 90 limecrete structures in Seguin, but only a few remain today.

Sebastopol House has been restored to its 1880 appearance and features original furnishings from the two families that lived there. This historic site used to be a state park, but now it's operated by the City of Seguin and it's open from Friday through Sunday.

The Seguin Conservation Society maintains several historic structures, including Los Nogales Museum, the Dietz Doll House, the Campbell-Hoermann Log Cabin and the Moore House. The society has also be instrumental in restoring and re-opening the 1931 Texas Theatre.
